I am currently a senior detective in the Financial Crime Unit of my respective law enforcement agency. Prior to my arrival in the investigative division, I was deployed in an operational capacity for approximately 14 years. The majority of my operational deployment was as a Beat Enforcement Officer in the Downtown Eastside. It was during this time that I observed a steady proliferation of youth entering a lifestyle of drugs, gangs and crime in the Downtown Eastside open air drug market.
The lure of the gangster lifestyle, and the lucrative nature of the drug trade was enough to mesmerize susceptible youth, and gradually envelope them into the depths of self-destruction. I strongly believed that in many cases, it was simply a lack of resources and guidance, which indubitably placed these children on this trajectory. As such, I began introducing sports programs to inner city youth through my respective department. The success of these programs over 8 years became the impetus to register my own nonprofit outside of the police department, namely, Kids Play Youth Foundation.
Since its inception, Kids Play has served close to 80,000 youth through high quality educational and sports programming, absolutely free of cost. I met Rajinder Chinna approximately 3 years ago through his community work with Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen, which is inspirational. He approached me to support our KidsPlay Youth programs, as a volunteer. Understanding the scope and depth of our programs, he took it as his social responsibility and moral obligation to invest his time and energy in our programs.
On account of his contributions as a volunteer, and so many others, we have established a strong connection between mentors and youth within the community. Many of these youth are
underprivileged and from lower socio-economic backgrounds. I write this letter in recognition of his efforts, and in full appreciation it will be used as a testimonial. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
Respectfully,
